To kick off the 2024/25 academic year, RCEM hosted an arts and culture salon including live music from students, painting and crafts, and a live dance performance! Attendees got to meet our team and learn more about RCEM as a whole. It was a massive success!
RCEM's Trivia Night
March 6th, 2024
To end the academic year 2023 - 2024, RCEM hosted a Trivia Game Night for students to get to know our team better and show off their knowledge in Film, Music, and Popular Culture. Guests participated in three rounds of a quiz show with carefully curated questions by our Events team to test their knowledge. The evening culminated in a grand finale where the winners of each of the three rounds competed to find out who would be the final winner.
RCEM's Film Industry Panel

Our first ever film industry CAREER PANEL, in collaboration with Rotman Commerce Arts Group, was a great success. Our speakers from the industry where from creative to professional backgrounds and offered UofT students to get a great insight what working in the entertainment industry is like. The speakers included Josanne Buchanan (Creative Children's Media Consultant), Ryan Bobkin (producer and Head of Development at Film Forge), Rory Dann (freelance post and project coordinator), Vinuja Shanthasoruban (Director of Development at Neshama Entertainment), Deni Valchev (Coordinator in Film & TV Sales at Entertainment One) and Maria Kennedy and Ben Mazzotta (Co-founders of Little Engine Moving Pictures). After a panel where RCEM and RCAG asked the panelists about their diverse experiences, UofT students where able to individually connect with the professionals in a speed-run networking session.
RCEM's Alumni Networking Event

RCEM's alumni panel allowed students to connect and hear the experiences of three University of Toronto alumni working in various fields in the entertainment and media industries. Tahreem works as IT Manager at Live Nation with the responsibility to oversee the technology support for venue services and events across Canada. She graduated with a Honours Bachelor of Sciene in Physics from the University of Toronto. Michelle Sullivan Talon is a Film & Television Hairstylist and Designer who has worked at Netflix, Orah Entertainment Feature Film, Hallmark Films, and more. She has worked on productions such as Kinky Boots the Musical and Titans Season 2 produced by DC Comics. She graduated with a Bachelor of Applies Science in Organic Chemistry from the University of Toronto. Josanne Buchanan is a cultural / creative consultant and youth media researcher / scholar who leverages innovative research to create entertaining and inclusive family animated content. She has consulted DreamWorks, Netflix, and Researcher at Ryerson's Children's Media Lab. She has a Master of Arts in Developmental Psychology and Education from the University of Toronto.
RCEM's Music Panel

RCEM's Music Panel invited students to join an online panel with two young musicians, Razzak Noorani and Katherine Lynn-Rose, to learn more of what it is like to break into and work in the music industry while also being a student at the same time. Razzak Noorani is a UofT student during the day studying at the Faculty of Arts & Science but by night he makes beats as a DJ. Noorani is most known for his mashup of Americano, Heads Will Roll , Old Town Road, and Mi Gente which has attracted 100 million views and 12 million views on YouTube. Noorani is a Pakistani-Canadian artists from Karachi, Pakistan. Katherine Lynn-Rose is currently studying Performing and Media Arts at Cornell University. She is a Chinese-Canadian actor, singer, composer/lyricist, and writer/director passionate about promoting Asian representation in the arts. Katherine performed as a semi-finalist in the second season of Canada’s Got Talent where she performed her original song Top of My Class. Her original music has amassed over 40 million streams on streaming platforms.
RCEM's SAG-AFTRA Movie Night

RCEM's first event of the 2023 - 2024 academic year was the SAG-AFTRA screening event. During the time, members of the American labor union caused major shift in the entertainment and media industries by protesting in masses for the working rights. Numerous actors, directors, screenwriters, and people of other entertainment professions took to the streets to fight for better labor conditions and pay. Many movies and projects were delayed or event halted during those protests. This event meant to educate our guests and what the SAG-AFTRA labor union is and how the situation could influence the entertainment industry. A presentation created by our event team kicked of the night followed by a screening of Rian Johnson's Knives Out a film that could not have been produced without the help of SAG-AFTRA.
RCEM's Netflix Career Panel

Ta-dum! RCEM's NETFLIX CAREER PANEL, our first event of 2022, was a tremendous success! This was an opportunity for all University of Toronto students to find out what it is like to work at one of the largest subscription streaming services and production companies in the world. Through a moderated discussion, students got to explore different possible career paths and hear about our guest speakers’ experiences at Netflix as well as their journeys in the industry. Before concluding the event, attendees got the chance to have their own questions answered by the panel guests!
